email hosting
i offer free email hosting to a small number of people i personally know. right now i’m too busy to open it up widely, so accounts are limited to friends. if you know me in real life, contact me through my usual channels and i'll send you setup instructions.
mailbox details
emails are hosted via mailcow on my own self-hosted debian 12 server, which i control fully. uptime is solid (100% last month) and there's a ups, so it's very stable. i will offer:
- - 15 gb of space per mailbox
- - up to 2 mailboxes per person
- - up to 5 aliases per mailbox
the physical drives storing your emails are encrypted at rest with luks, so if the server is ever seized, the data can't be read. do note that this doesn't protect data once the server's running and it doesn't protect it from me, the administrator. the system uses raid 5 for redundancy in case of hardeware failure.
if you hog my bandwidth with spam or for illegal shit, i WILL nuke your account. please don't make my life harder than it already is. plus, if you get an account, you almost certainly know me in real life, so don't make things awkward.
brief reality check:
email is inherently insecure and you cannot trust your email provider. literally any e-mail provider (including me) can read all of your emails. regardless of if you use some fancy encrypted email provider or not, even if they encrypt mail before storing it, no matter what swiss privacy laws they're following, they still receive the email in plaintext first. if your life and/or freedom depends on email, don't use email. use something like ricochet or briar. i highly encourage you to encrypt mail with gpg if possible. this prevents me from handling it in plaintext. this gpg setup guide is a pretty good one to get you started.
